Dehydration

Dehydration occurs when the body loses more fluids than it takes in. This can happen as a result of excessive sweating, diarrhea, vomiting, or not drinking enough fluids. Symptoms of dehydration may include thirst, dry mouth, dizziness, and fatigue. In severe cases, dehydration can lead to kidney damage or kidney failure.
Treatment for dehydration typically involves rehydration, which can be achieved by drinking fluids or receiving fluids intravenously. In some cases, electrolytes such as sodium and potassium may need to be replaced as well. Doral Health and Wellness’s Nephrology Department can provide consultations and treatment options for patients with dehydration to help alleviate symptoms and prevent further complications.
